Product test: Napoleon Freestyle 325 SB Graphite with side burner

The frugal all-rounder
Test: Elmar Fetscher

To attract even more grill fans to its gas grills, Canadian manufacturer Napoleon recently developed the affordable Freestyle gas grill series. FIRE&FOOD took a closer look at the Freestyle 325 SB with side burner from this series.

Data and assembly
The grill can be assembled in a short time. Clear assembly instructions are included, and all connecting parts are clearly listed. The total height of the grill with the lid closed is 116 cm, the depth is 64 cm, and the width with the side shelves unfolded is 124 cm. The three stainless steel tubular burners produce 12 kW of power, and the side burner produces 3 kW. The 51 x 45 cm grill surface is equipped with cast iron grates, the burner flame covers are porcelain enameled, and the lower combustion chamber consists of a die-cast aluminum pan.

Operational
The Freestyle's features allow for both grilling and barbecue use. The burners' power is perfectly adequate, both high and low, and they're no slouch compared to Napoleon's more expensive models. The side cooking area has proven its worth, as pans and pots are increasingly being used on the grill. If you're looking to save money, this model is available without a side burner. One advantage is that both side shelves are foldable, meaning this grill version requires very little storage space. Access to the side shelves is limited and only possible from the rear. However, there's plenty of room there for an 11 kg gas cylinder.
