Product test: Schickling Rocket High-end gas grill

High-end gas grill with power
Test: Elmar Fetscher

The Lower Saxony-based company has poured all of its years of experience in grill construction into the construction of its new star, the Rocket. FIRE&FOOD has put the Rocket under the microscope in a product test.

Grill manufacturer Schickling has done its homework: A grill in this price and quality class must be delivered to the customer fully assembled. So, before using the grill, the customer only needs to remove the film, remove the grill from the pallet, and connect the gas cylinder – and they're ready to go.

At 110 kg, the Rocket is no lightweight. A strong square frame mounted on four heavy-duty wheels and a sheet metal thickness slightly thicker than usual ensure high stability and, not least, a long service life. Almost everything on the Rocket is made of stainless steel. In places where the material is subject to particularly high stress, such as the burner covers, V4 stainless steel was even used.

The 95 cm working height and a grilling surface measuring 71 x 45 cm allow for comfortable grilling and barbecuing. The stainless steel rod burners, each with 5 kW in the cooking chamber, a rear burner, and a ceramic burner in the side shelf produce a combined 29 kW. This draws heavily on the 11 kg gas cylinder. The double-walled cooking hood and the compact outlet opening in the rear cooking chamber allow for efficient grill control. Using just one burner, you can set the temperature to around 100 °C, which is ideal for low-temperature cooking. The heat is evenly distributed on the stainless steel grates across the entire grilling surface. This is made possible by holes of varying sizes at the gas outlets of the burners.

Cleaning the Rocket after grilling is also convenient, as the grease collection system can be easily removed from the front. Two drawers and a side compartment for the gas bottle provide ample storage space – and everything is equipped with a soft-close mechanism. Worth mentioning and eye-catching are the solid aluminum controls, which give the grill a special touch.

1. The solid aluminum controls look classy and fit well in the hand.

2. Storage space for an 11 kg gas cylinder.

3. Four stainless steel rod burners, each with 5kW power.

4. Large heavy-duty wheels.

5. Two stacked drawers, double-walled with soft-close.

6. Double-walled cooking hood.

7. Ceramic burner in the side shelf.

8. Grease drip tray that can be pulled out forward.

Conclusion:
Manufactured in Germany and using the finest materials, combined with Schickling's experience in grill construction, make the Rocket a high-end gas grill that deserves this award.
