Product test: Weber Spirit E-425 GBS Black
The Purist
Test: Elmar Fetscher
Weber has streamlined its product lines in recent months. The Spirit line, in particular, has reduced the variety of models. The design of the classic gas grill has also been updated. FIRE&FOOD took a closer look at the affordable Spirit E-425 GBS Black model for its product test. A similar model, the EP-425, has almost the same name. The EP-425 has a thermometer integrated into the side table with a digital display, rather than being located in the lid.
Data and assembly
This is what you'd expect from Weber: Assembling the grill takes about an hour. The gaps are perfect, and the screw connections work perfectly. The well-written assembly instructions are almost unnecessary – everything is clearly packaged and intuitive to assemble. The cooking surface with its porcelain-enameled cast iron grates measures 2761 cm², and the stainless steel warming rack adds an additional 677 cm². The closed grill measures 117 cm high, 132 cm wide, and 67.5 cm deep. The four stainless steel burners have a rated output of 10.26 kW. The two side panels are foldable, and the large storage compartment accommodates an 11 kg gas cylinder.
Operational
Two designated burners, known as the Sear Zone, generate a heat booster that increases power by approximately 40%. This is particularly beneficial when branding steaks, but also when using a plancha or wok. The die-cast burner tray makes cleaning the grill easier after use.
1. Clear arrangement of the fittings with good labeling.
2. Manual thermometer in the lid.
3. The grill can also be pushed across the lawn on large wheels.
4. Foldable side shelf.
5. The GBS system with porcelain-enameled cast iron grates.
6. One of the stainless steel burners.
7. The aroma rails (burner covers made of stainless steel), arranged in an aluminum die-cast tray.
8. The grease collection system.
Conclusion:
The Weber Spirit E-425 GBS is a solidly equipped basic gas grill. High-wear parts, such as the burners and burner covers, are made of stainless steel. Large wheels make transporting the grill easy. It's the perfect grill for all grill masters who value the essentials and can do without frills.
