In two qualifying competitions, Germany's lumberjacks had the chance to recommend themselves for the highlight of the national TIMBERSPORTS ® season - because only the best ten athletes in the country fight for the crown of their guild at the German Championships. The field of participants has now been determined and the athletes are in the final preparation phase. On August 21, they will have to complete the six disciplines, three each with an axe and a saw, as quickly as possible in order to collect points for the overall ranking. Only the person who has the most points in his account after all six disciplines is the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS ® German Champion 2021.

The reigning German champion Danny Martin travels to Gelsenkirchen as the favorite. The Sinntal native has been unbeaten at national level since winning his first title in 2019 and was in top form at this year's competitions. But his fiercest competitors Robert Ebner (Baden-Württemberg) and Lars Seibert (Hesse) also have legitimate title ambitions. Andreas Striewe could also cause a surprise: The Borchen native has impressed with strong performances this season, which have earned him third place in the Ford Transit Cup, among other things, and is the only NRW native hoping for a home advantage in Gelsenkirchen.

One thing is certain: the athletes can be sure of the loud cheers of their loyal fans. For the first time in two years, live audiences are allowed at a STIHL TIMBERSPORTS ® competition in Germany, which will transform the amphitheater into a cauldron. In view of the current developments surrounding COVID-19, 500 tickets will initially go on presale. The TIMBERSPORTS ® officials will continuously monitor the situation and adjust the ticket quota if necessary.

Andreas Striewe from Borchen, here at the two-meter Single Buck pull saw, is the only NRW athlete in the field of participants hoping for a home game in Gelsenkirchen.

Up to 80 HP and weighing around 30 kilograms: The tuned racing chainsaw Hot Saw is the grand finale of the TIMBERSPORTS® competitions.

About STIHL TIMBERSPORTS ® :
STIHL TIMBERSPORTS ® is an international competition series in sport logging. Its roots lie in Australia and New Zealand, Canada and the USA. In order to determine the best in their field, the forest workers there have always held local logging competitions. Over time, this showdown has developed into professional events at a high sporting level. In the national and international competitions in the top class of sport logging, the athletes compete against each other in three axe and three saw disciplines. Springboard, underhand chop and standing block chop are among the classic axe competitions; in the single buck (pull saw), the stock saw (commercially available chainsaw) and the hot saw (up to 80 hp tuned chainsaw), the athletes compete for the best times with saws.
