Meatballs in tomato sauce Greek style

Ingredients

• 250 g minced lamb
• 150 g ground beef
• 1 shallot, finely chopped
• 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
• 1 tsp sweet paprika powder
• 1 tbsp Greek seasoning of your choice
• ½ tbsp oriental spice mix of your choice
• ½ tsp salt
• 2–3 turns of the pepper mill
• 1 tbsp black sesame seeds
• 1 tbsp light sesame seeds (lightly roasted beforehand)
• 1 tbsp neutral oil
• 250 g Kritharaki (Greek pasta)
• some Greek yoghurt or crumbled feta as a topping

For the sauce:
• 1 shallot, diced
• 800 g strained tomatoes
• 1 can (approx. 300 g) Kremidakia onions for Stifado
• 1 tbsp Greek seasoning of your choice
• 1 tbsp oriental spice mix of your choice
• 1 tsp salt

preparation

 Mix the minced meat, season and form into small balls. Preheat the Dutch oven on a low flame - alternatively with 2-3 glowing coals in bottom heat.

Fry half of the meatballs in the oil until brown all over and remove from the DO, then fry the second half and set aside.

Briefly fry the diced shallots in the remaining fat and add the strained tomatoes and a splash of water if necessary. Add the meatballs and onions for Stifado and season with salt and the Greek and oriental spice mix.

Cook the Greek pasta according to the instructions on the packet, simmering the sauce until the pasta is cooked (after 10-15 minutes).

Garnish with some Greek yoghurt or crumbled feta.
